Flood Insurance for your Business
Flooding is not a covered peril under your General Liability or other business insurance policy. Separate, stand-alone policies are available. The NFIP - National Flood Insurance Program offers commercial flood insurance policies to businesses to protect your business property, building and equipment from the disastrous consequences of flood waters. Private Flood and Excess Flood are also available to insure your business against flooding. Private Flood programs may offer coverage limits and rates that are more favorable than the NFIP. In most cases, EC's - Elevation Certificates and photos are not necessary.
As we know, a building does not have to be located close to a water source to experience a flood. Floods can occur almost anywhere and at any time. Flash floods, inland flooding, and seasonal storms bring flooding to every region of the country. A few inches of water can cause tens of thousands of dollars in damage. About 25% of all flood insurance claims come from low- to moderate-risk areas.
A flood insurance policy compensates business owners for all covered losses, less the deductible(s), and unlike a disaster loan, there is no payback requirement. Flood insurance is always the better choice!
